The main task of INFOSAMAK is to provide companies, sectorial organizations and governments with information and advice in the fields of production, processing, quality control and marketing of fishery products. It also focuses on meeting the requirements of the decision makers in the fishery and aquaculture sector by providing an effective information system and relevant market analysis.

Since its creation in April 1986, the centre has always focused on meeting the requirements of the decision-makers in the fishery and aquaculture sector by providing an effective information system and relevant market analysis.

INFOSAMAK prioritises the following actions to fulfil this task, namely to:

Provide information on marketing opportunities and supply prospects for fishery products within and outside the region.
Advise on products specifications, processing methods and quality standards in accordance with market requirements.
Plan and coordinate research activities and the collection and dissemination of marketing information for fish and fishery products.
Provide training in marketing techniques to staff from private companies, institutions and fisheries administrations and generally strengthen the national institutions and services responsible for the sector in Member States.
Help to identify new niche markets for products from under-utilised fishery resources.

MOROCCO : LAUNCHING OF THE FAO-CFC-INFOSAMAK PROJECT
On Wednesday, June 11th, 2008, at the headquarter of his ministry, Mr. Aziz Akhennouch, Minister of Agriculture and Marine Fisheries, together with Amb. Ali Mchumo, Director General of Common Fund for Commodities, and Mr. Grimur Valdimarsson, Director of Fish Products and Industry Division, FAO have officially launched the Regional Project on Fisheries Technical Assistance:
“For a sustainable development of small-scale fisheries in the Arab region”, funded by CFC, and budgeted around $1.5 million dollars.
