Morocco: King Mohammed VI inaugurates wholesale fish market in Casablanca [Print...]
Casablanca, Oct. 24th, 2008 - King Mohammed VI inaugurated, Friday, October 24th in Sidi Othman in Casablanca, the first phase of a MAD 70 mln (about $ 8 mln) wholesale fish market.
The project, spanning over 4.5 hectares, is part of the reorganization of fishery products marketing in Casablanca through a comprehensive and integrated approach that is based on several projects, including constructing a wholesale fish market outside the surrounding port, upgrading marketing infrastructures, and providing technical support for the establishment of a network of retail markets. Built in conformity with international quality standards, the facility is equipped with a refrigeration system to maintain products quality and an information system to computerize the entire process of marketing. The new wholesale fish market is also meant to develop domestic consumption of fishery products by allowing Moroccan citizens to benefit from the country’s fish wealth in the best possible conditions in terms of price, quality and availability.
