Yemen and the EC discuss national strategy over fishing sector     [Print...]
Minister of Fisheries Wealth Mohammed Shamlan discussed on Wednesday February 3rd with the delegation of European Commission (EC) over a project of the national strategy of developing the fishing sector in Yemen.

They discussed main objectives of the strategy and level of implementing first phase of the strategy which focuses on collecting information and databases.

The project is funded by the EC with €10.6 million.

Mr Shamlan affirmed importance of the strategy to develop management of the fishing sector which would contribute effetely to the national economy of the country.

He made it clear that the strategy aims at increasing fishing product of the country at 10 percent yearly until 2025 in addition to improve the quality of the Yemeni exports of fishes.

The EU delegation affirmed importance of depending on scientific studies throughout the strategy's phases in order to come out with modern mechanisms to improve the sector in the country.
