Morocco- Russia sign a new fisheries agreement      [Print...]
A new fisheries agreement between Russia and Morocco was signed on 10 December 2012, with a duration of four years. The agreement was signed in the Moroccan capital city Rabat. Holding the pen were Moroccan Minister for Fisheries, Aziz Akhannouch and Vasily Sokolov, vice-President of the Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo).

Under this agreement, a fleet of 10 Russian ships will resume fishing in Moroccan waters. In return, the Russian shipowners will pay a financial compensation representing the right to access the resource. The annual financial compensation, which was introduced for the first time in 2011, was increased by 100% and royalties on catches of 40%.

"Morocco and Russia are linked by historical relations of cooperation in the fisheries sector," said Akhannouch in a press statement after the signing ceremony, noting that this is the 6th fisheries agreement between the two countries.

From his part, Vasily Sokolov, who welcomed the fruitful cooperation in the field of marine fisheries between Morocco and Russia, said that this agreement is beneficial to both countries, stressing that it will allow Russian ships to resume fishing in Moroccan waters and carry out scientific research in the Moroccan Atlantic waters.

Fish Info Network Directors meet at Conxemar, Vigo
In October each year the Spanish Association of Wholesalers, Importers, Manufacturers and Exporters of Fish products and Aquaculture (Conxemar) organizes the International Frozen Seafood Exhibition in Vigo, Spain.

Back to back with this event Conxemar jointly holds an international conference together with FAO. This year the conference was dedicated to cephalopods, a group of molluscs that includes squids, cuttlefishes, and octopus. The conference also provides the backdrop for various side events such as the Vigo dialogue on decent work in fisheries and aquaculture, and the meeting of the Fish Info Network (FIN).
