The new fishing agreements
Fishermen are calling on governments of Galicia and Andalusia to establish close relationships with the Moroccan authorities in order to enable the Spanish fishing fleet to gain strong advantages in the future. The president of the Organization of National Fishing Associations (ONAPE) confirmed that authorities have to improve relations between the two countries and promote negotiations to help the fleet affected by the closing of fishing areas. ONAPE’s officers think that Spain is in a good position to tackle this issue. In fact, the Moroccan authorities provided support by opening the fishing areas for the fleet of Galicia affected by the disaster of Prestige. In the meantime, it was revealed this week that the fishing council in Galicia extended to the end of the year the deadline for the submission of offers related to the redeployment of the fleet for boats that operated in the Moroccan waters.
