SANA’A - In a debate held last Wednesday morning by the Cabinet over a bill on fisheries and their means of development presented by the Agriculture and fisheries Commission.

The Parliament recommended that the Cabinet stop the activities of companies illegally fishing in Yemeni waters and not to ratify any further agreements until a good policy is set to best exploit such wealth.

The Parliament also underscored the necessity of treating damages to fishing areas in the Red and Arabian Seas and the Gulf of Aden which have been brought about by the overexploitation of fish wealth through the adoption of policy by the Cabinet in order to best exploit it, guaranteeing its security and encouraging traditional means of fishing via making available modern tools and requirements in addition to promoting traditional production and marketing capabilities through granting them
easy loans.

Moreover, the Parliament recommended that fishing companies operating in the sphere of commercial fishing should pay compensation to traditional fishermen for the damages they receive, to adopt a new bill that regulates and systemises the process of fishing, to issue cards for those working in fishing profession, and to protect Yemeni regional waters through coordinating among all bodies concerned
