Twenty-three countries come out against the Icelandic programme to return to whaling for scientific purposes.

In a common declaration handed on the 10th September by Great Britain to the Icelandic government, 23 countries call on Iceland to look back its decision concerning the return to whaling for scientific purposes. This common declaration underlines that the Icelandic decision is " in violation with the adopted resolution in Berlin in June by the international whale commission", indicates in addition a statement of the British environment ministry.

The said resolution stipulates " whaling for scientific purposes goes against the moratory on whaling for commercial purposes".
