The Euro Mediterranean conference on sea environment protection organized in Tunis, resulted in the publication of «The carthage-tunis Declaration for an integral preservation of the Mediterranean sea environment ».
MR. Nadhir Hamada, Secretary of State in the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Hydraulic Resources responsible for the Environment chaired the closing meeting that took place in the presence of MR. Amor El Abed, Secretary of State responsible for Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries, underlined that the Declaration of Carthage - Tunis gave shape to the aspirations of the peoples of the Euro Mediterranean region, and constituted a starting point and a reference to even favour the expansion of the common action in order to protect the Mediterranean, to safeguard the ecosystem and to bring out its potentials, within a framework of solidarity and cooperation between individuals, groups and nations.
He added that the initiative of Tunisia, since the Change of the 7th-November, consisting in proposing approaches of reconciliation between the economic and environmental dimensions asserted the existence of potentials that are likely to resolve various environmental issues without harming economic interests of the peoples.
The secretary of state emphasized that the Tunisia work for the preservation of its natural resources through the rationalization of the exploitation in a way to guarantee a worthy life to its citizens and to its future generations. It endeavoured to protect its environment in all its components, through a series of measures and programmes avant-garde that contributed widely to the development of environment and to the insurance of safety by reconciling between the requirements of a healthy ecosystem and the conditions of a sustainable development.
