The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA), through the General Secretary of Maritime Fisheries (SGPM), and the Ministry of Fisher Resources of the Republic of Yemen have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote improved ties and bilateral cooperation regarding Spain and Yemen fisheries...

With the signing of this protocol, the SGPM will make way to undertake feasibility studies over fisheries projects Yemen requested from Spain’s Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade.
These projects include the development of fishery infrastructur in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea, for traditional fisheries, and construction and equipping of fishing ports on the Island of Socorra, in the Beer Alí (Protectorate of Shabwa) area and in the Coba area of the Red Sea.
According to the memorandum, both countries agree to promote investment in Yemen’s fishing and aquaculture sectors among companies and businessmen, and to promote the creation of joint ventures in sectors like fishery, manufacture, processing and storing of Yemen’s fishing products for export.
On the other hand, representatives of the SGPM will be studying the viability of sending Spanish experts in development of marine farming and rafts to help Yemen's Marine Research Centre implement its research programmes for commercially interesting species.
Moreover, Spain and Yemen will begin sharing information, research findings, and scientific and legal experience on how to manage fishery and aquaculture activities, as well as on the development of fishing resources and the protection of the environment.
Both countries also promised to boost ties between their respective institutions and foundations and improve fishing economic, commercial and technological cooperation.
The memorandum of understanding was signed during a four-day-long official visit of Yemen’s vice minister of Fishing Wealth, Ibrahim Alsagiri, to Spain.
