A meeting, involving Arab fisheries Ministers and officials from Departments of Fisheries, was held in Sanaa in Yemen on November 25th & 26th, 2006.

It was Eng. Mahmoud Ibrahim Essaghiri, the Minister of Fisheries, with the collaboration of the Arab Union for Fisheries Products (AUFP), who had called for this meeting in an attempt to harmonize strategies and activate Arab cooperation on different levels related to fisheries and aquaculture. The attendees decided to found the “Arab Council for Fisheries” and recommended to provide support to INFOSAMAK in responding to Arab countries’ needs in terms of information and advisory services.
