MUSCAT - Salim bin Said al Ghattami, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), opened a four-day agriculture and fisheries exhibition at the Oman International Exhibition Centre (OIEC) on Saturday, March 17th, 2007. The event is organised by Al Katkout International Trade and Exhibition in association with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Centre for Marketing Information and Advisory Services for Fisheries Products in the Arab Region (INFOSAMAK).
The chief guest and other dignitaries toured the exhibition in which companies from Oman, Kuwait, Iran, Morocco, Germany and Italy are participating. He said there has been a huge demand for Oman fisheries in the global markets due to their high quality. He told journalists that the exhibition is aimed at promoting Omani fisheries and update related companies and to familiarise consumers, companies and investors about Oman’s various fish species.
Dr Hamad bin Said al Aufi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, said the exhibition is a good opportunity for sellers and buyers to meet. Oman’s fish exports stood at 83.5 thousand tonnes in 2005 fetching RO 59 million. Most of the products go to Japan and the US, Al Aufi added.
