Octopus fishers are getting ready to resume their fishing activities on June 15th, 2007. Indeed, The first day of Octopus fishing season was planned in the beginning of the month, but after evaluating live stocks, it was decided to postpone this date for two weeks.
Meanwhile, negotiations have been launched to reach a consensus about a management plan and ensure a good running of the sector. The first phase of this plan which was agreed upon and signed in 2004, is about to expire. For the time being, and as previously mentioned by Mr. Mohamed Tarmidi, Secretary General of Moroccan Fisheries Department, the present Octopus management plan will certainly be re-adopted.
