The Fishing Ministries of the 27 EU member countries met in Brussels and reached an agreement for the TAC for 2008.

The TAC for cod were cut in all fishing areas except the North Sea. The TAC for cod was cut by 18%, although the European Commission (EC) asked for a cut of 25%. However, in the North Sea there was an 11% increase in the TAC given that scientific reports indicated an increase in the stocks. As for anchovy in Vizcaya Gulf, the EU agreed to maintain a total ban on capture, as the EC proposed, until June 2008. Then, the Commission will be able to set the capture quotas in that area according to the ruling, and the scientific information gathered during the first half of 2008.
