The fisheries sector has been strengthened by the creation of the Moroccan Coastal Fishing Confederation (CMPC), which comprises about 30 fishing associations from around the United Kingdom.
The creation of this confederation came in response to the concern of national coastal fisheries professionals to ensure a better national representativeness in order to address issues and challenges as part of the Halieutis strategy, led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Maritime Fishing, as stated in a press statement by the president of the Union of Shipowners in Tangier, Mr Youssef Benjelloun, after the constituent assembly in this instance.
The Moroccan Coastal Fishing Confederation " CMPC" aims at defending and promoting the interests and working conditions of fishing sector professionals, and to ensure the upgrading of port infrastructure in addition to set itself as an interlocutor of ministry and the National Ports Agency, particularly with respect to the temporary exploitation of the public port area and ports management.
It intends to make sure to establish a dialogue and an exchange of experience with all stakeholders and organizations working in the sector at the national and international level.
The Confederation will consist of a national congress, a council of association presidents, and an executive office in addition to a communication office, the presidency of the Executive Office being rotatory for three years between the presidents of the three regional federations for a term of one year.
