
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr Youssef Amrani, held talks on Friday in Rabat with the European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ms Maria Damanaki, about the contours of a new fisheries agreement between Morocco and the European Union (EU).
During this interview, which was attended by the Ambassador Head of EU Delegation in Morocco, Mr Eneko Landaburu, the delegate Minister underlined that Morocco is closely following the debates started in the EU concerning the renewal of the new partnership protocol in the fisheries sector should consider the interests of both parties and sector priorities. He thus informed the EU Commissioner about the availability of Morocco to explore new opportunities in the field of fisheries as part of an approach that meets the mutual interests and priorities.
Moreover, Mr Amrani recalled the positive and the upward momentum experienced by Morocco's relations with the EU, which are part of a logic of proximity, dialogue and comprehensive cooperation. The talks focused on the outlines of a new fisheries agreement between Morocco and EU, "which takes into account the interests of Morocco, the priorities of the fisheries sector and national priorities of our European partners, within the framework of a partnership which we want strong and sincere for the interest of Morocco and Europe, " as stated by Mr Amrani during a press briefing following this meeting. "We are determined to work with our European partners on the feasibility and the outlines of this future agreement, which takes into consideration our national and unique interests ", assured the Minister.
