The Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, Mr Aziz Akhannouch, received on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in Rabat, his Libyan counterpart Mr. Abdelhamid Bou Kharouba Soleiman, in the framework of a business and friendship visit that began on August 7 in Morocco, by the Libyan ministerial delegation headed by the Libyan Prime Minister, Mr. Abderrahim El Kib.

During their meeting, the two ministers discussed cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agriculture and development prospects of this cooperation. In the field of fisheries industry, it is necessary to implement the Cooperation Agreement signed in 2005 in the field of marine fisheries.

Relations between the two countries in the agricultural sector are currently limited to the exchange of expertise, experiences and agricultural data, in addition to the conclusion, since 2000, of several partnership agreements aiming at promoting the agricultural sector and fishery resources in the two countries. The development of agriculture is a priority of the government of Libya. The sector employs 17% of the labor force and the share of agricultural imports represented 24.8% of total imports.
