The Minister of Fisheries Wealth Awad al-Socotri met on February 4th, 2014 with representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Yemen, Salah Hajj Hassan.
During the meeting, they discussed aspects of cooperation between Yemen and the FAO in fisheries areas and ways of enhancing them.
The minister stressed the importance of FAO's support for the fisheries sector in Yemen, especially in field of improving fish products in order to create extra value for the product as well as supporting the national strategy for the development of fisheries sector.
He pointed out the important of the FAO's support in the study of fish reserve due to Yemen has large fisheries wealth which must be preserved, as well as provide the necessary technical support for aquaculture and fisheries research.
For his part, the FAO official confirmed the organization’s wiliness to provide further support for the fisheries sector in Yemen which is one of the most promising sectors of the country’s economy.
