According to the Egyptian General Authority for Fish Resources Development (QAFRD), the annual catches of fish resources in Egypt registred a growth from 220.000 MT in 1982 to 770.000 MT in recent years. Egypt imports annually more than 200.000 MT of fish products and its present consumption stands at about one million tons. Egypt signed several agreements to enable Egyptian boats to fish in Algerian and Yemenite territorial waters.
