Morocco: 7th annual Meeting of the ISMAP The 7th meeting of the national coordinators of the ISMAP (Information System for Mediterranean Aquaculture Promotion), organized by the FAO and the National Fisheries Researches Institute (NFRI, Morocco) took place in Casablanca (Morocco) on September, 19th-20th 2003. This meeting included participants of the FAO representatives, the team of the regional Centre of the ISMAP as well as the coordinators of the 17 member nations, namely: France, Albania, Algeria, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey and Morocco. The objectives of this 7th meeting are : „« to present the new Web page of the ISMAP and its regional data base; „« to discuss the reinforcement of the ISPAM network and its organization as far as the collection, authentication and dissemination of information are concerned; „« to line up future objectives of the ISMAP. The ISMAP is an Information System for the Mediterranean Aquaculture Promotion, carried out under the aegis of the Committee of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean, depending on the General Council of fishing of the Mediterranean. It was conceived by the FAO to improve data exchange in the domain of aquaculture in the region. At the opening of the meeting, the General Secretary of the Department of Fisheries in Morocco, Mr. Rhanimi Tijani, called for the development of the aquaculture industry. to take advantage of opportunities offered by the international market during its growth. Moreover, Mr Tijani asked the ISMAP to provide south countries with necessary support to make initiatives for a less costly aquaculture that is likely to provide a competitive offer and respectful to the environment. On his part, Mr Hadj Ali, the regional coordinator of ISMAP, emphasized the achievement of the system after 7 years of its effective existence. He underlined that the total of data recorded until August 31st 2003 is 10.931 divided up on 13 data base. |
