Moroccan freezer trio completed ASTILLEROS Francisco Cardama in Vigo has completed the final two in a series of three trawlers for Moroccan owner Sofinas. The vessels are Tarfaya VI and Safi IV, which are sisters to Bahia III delivered by Cardama at the end of 2003. These stern trawlers have a 32 metre overall length hull, beam of 8.20 metres and depth to the upper shelter- deck of 3.65 metres. Accommodation on board the sister-ships is for a crew of 24 in three five-berth, one triple, two double and two single cabins. The main engine of each vessel is a Caterpillar 352TA- 7A, which develops 1060 hp at 1200 rpm to turn a controllable pitch propeller via a j ZF reduction gearbox. Their electrical power is supplied by the Caterpillar 3406 generator developing 460 hp at 1800 pm. Fuel is filtered by an Alfa Laval MAB'-103 gasoil purifying unit' capable of handling 1150 litres an hour. Bombas Azcue supplied the pumps for both ships, including a pair of heavy- duty units for general and bilge duties, washing down and firefighting. Bombas Azcue also provided the 25 litre stainless steel hydrophore unit with a 2 cu. metre an hour capacity for pumping sanitary fresh water. Tarfaya VI and Safi IV are built to handle up to eight tonnes of fish a day in three freezing tunnels designed to freeze to -35°C, a -400 tunnel built to handle 4000 kg a day N in 11 hour cycles and a -550 S unit to freeze 2000 kg a day in d 24/36 hour cycles. They have direct expansion refrigeration using R-404 refrigerant to run the freezers : and trays, while there are refrigeration coils in the 350 and 100 cu. metre fishrooms. Deck cranes are by a Spanish manufacturer, being Guerra 110.90 M3 units with a 990 kg capacity at 9.50 metres, . as well as a davit located aft for deploying the liferaft and for taking on provisions. |
