Morocco: More than US$ 220Mn to develop small-scale sea fishing The Moroccan government has earmarked about MAD 02Bn, about US$ 220Mn, to develop small-scale sea fishing, part of the National Initiative for Human Development initiated last year to fight poverty and exclusion... A document distributed at the dedication of the fish landing dock in Bouzenika, 40km south of Rabat, said small-scale fishing provide 60% of all fresh fish exported. The Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry has worked out a program destined to improve the living and working conditions of some 126,000 fishermen using 18,000 small fishing boats and employing another 700,000 indirect personnel. The program is also to improve fishing landing infrastructures and distribution networks as well as the construction of fishing villages at landing ports.
