Yemen: $569,000 allocated as technical support to develop fisheries

SANA'A, July 21 - Minister of Fisheries Wealth Mohammed Saleh Shamlan held talks with director of INFOSAMAK Center Abdellatif Belkouch over improving fisheries sector and training workers of three fisheries associations in Yemen at an amount of $569,000.

The project co-financed by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) is to train fishermen of these associations with advanced methods.
Deputy Minister of fisheries wealth for planning and projects sector Abdul-Hadi al-Khader said that the major goals of the project is represented by improving fisheries crafts and professional fishing and rising contributions in the domestic economy and improve local markets.
The project would contribute to poverty alleviation via seeking international markets, encouraging investment in the sector and protecting fisheries wealth.
For his part, INFOSAMAK director said that European markets are the main markets of fisheries products coming from the Arab region and to enter these markets the Arab countries must be responsive to health conditions stated in the European legislations for fisheries trade.
