![]() Ash from an Icelandic volcano continues to wreak havoc for the fresh seafood industry as it interrupts flights across the globe. Norwegian salmon farming giant Marine Harvest has cut its salmon harvest and Iceland put its fresh fish on hold as they find themselves unable to ship out consignments by air. "I estimate that our loss is NOK 3 to NOK 4 million (USD 23,000 to USD 31,000) per day," said Birgir Kristinsson, a managing director at Icelandic fishing company Nyfiskur. The fish processor used to export its products daily by air to Belgium and from there on to central European markets. The fish that cannot be delivered by air will have to be frozen, which will half the product’s value. |
