Morocco/Russia Russia and Morocco sign fishery agreement On 15 October current Russia and Morocco have finally signed a comprehensive fishery agreement to be valid for years term, according to Russia’s State Fisheries Committee. The deal has enabled Russian fishing vessels to harvest pelagic fish such as mackerel and horse mackerel in the Atlantic part of the Moroccan EEZ with Morocco to annually decide on the specific volume of allowed catch in terms of species and areas. For its part Russia has undertaken to pay compensation to Morocco for the granted fishing rights, which will be expressed as a certain percentage of the production of the Russian vessels. Besides, the parties have agreed to develop co-operation in the following fields : * Fishery research towards conservation, recovery and sustainable exploitation of the living resources of the Atlantic fishery zone of Morocco. * Development of fishing methods, processing techniques, shipbuilding and ship repair, manufacture of netting, tackle and fishing gear. * Development of exchange of fishery expertise and training of labour for processing industry. In order to implement the agreement and resolve possible disputes, the countries have set up the Russian-Moroccan Fisheries Commission to meet once a year alternating between Russia and Morocco. |
