The ongoing mackerel dispute, which has been raging for the last few weeks, will certainly be a central topic on the agenda of the international conference The Pelagic Complex due to kick off in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands 7-9 September, under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The Council of Ministers have approved a Draft Sustainable Fisheries Act, which aims to achieve rational, responsible and sustainable fishing in accordance with local and international legislation as well as the code of conduct for responsible fisheries from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation(FAO).

An amendment to the Law on the organization of fishing has been published. Under the new provision, it is forbidden to use, possess, manufacture or sell the driftnets . Any violation of this provision is punishable by law. This program requires a budget of 130 million DH.
