Outlook
On 14 July this year, EU decided to reduce import tariffs applied to non-EU exporting countries on cooked and peeled shrimp for further processing in the EU (Regulations/Decisions 0824/07), effective starting date 17/07/2007. Consequently, Canadian coldwater shrimp exports to the European market, and more particularly to the UK, are expected to increase.
In Argentina, the shrimp fishery in national jurisdictional waters was closed on 25 September 2007. Nevertherless, landings are expected to surpass last year’s figure and exports to Europe of Pleoticus muelleri should continue to expand.
